Sometimes because of pride or ego or a mistaken idea, one person may not confide in another or tell them the whole truth. Have you ever been in a situation in which you didn’t want the other person to know something about you? You had something you wanted to keep secret? How did you act? Did the other person realize you were hiding something? How did your behavior change the way they acted toward you?

I have had lots of secrets I didn't want to tell people but I guess I am just lucky because I haven't really had to cover it up with a lie. When I was like 8 I broke a wooden bunny decoration when I accidentally threw a ball and hit it and it fell down the stairs. I was so guilty though that when my mom came home I immediately told her and started to cry. I would write about another experience but the secret is to dangerous to reveal on the Internet. I had a neighbor who always wanted to hang out on Sunday and whenever he would come over and ask I would make up an excuse like I had to do my chores or I was grounded or something and he kind of got suspicious like I didn't like him which was kind of true he was weird he moved away like a year later. Another time I crashed on my bike and I didn't want my mom to know because I wasn't supposed to be riding down the hill I crashed on so I felt guilty when I came home all dusty. I wasn't bruised or cut up so you couldn't really tell and she still doesn't know to this day.

It seems like reading Edgar Allan Poe stories around Halloween is a rite of passage for students in English classes. He wrote poems such as "The Raven" and "Annabel Lee" and stories like "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Black Cat", "The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Masque of the Red Death", "The Pit and the Pendulum", etc.If you have read Poe stories before, which ones have you read and what do you remember of them? Did you like them? How scary/creepy were they? Share your memories of you or teachers reading the works of Edgar Allan Poe.If you have not read Poe or don't remember, describe to me what you expect from a classic horror writer? What kinds of stories do you think we'll be reading? Have you ever read scary stories?

I think I've read The Raven and the Cask of Amontillado in English before. I remember they were really weird and disturbing. I think in the Raven some guy snuck into another guys house and killed him while he was sleeping because he didn't like his weird looking "evil eye." I think then he put the body under the floor boards and the police came and he went crazy from guilt.
I did like the other one the cask of Amontillado. I think that was one where there was a guy who had held a grudge against another guy for years and he tricked him into going into the cellar and he trapped him in a room and then sealed it up with cement and bricks. It was fun to read them but they weren't that scary more disturbing and weird then anything.

Have you ever studied a skunk's eyes? Write about some item you find beauty in that many others might not.

I love rain and grey dark skies and slugs. A lot of people get sad and glum when it rains and they feel all dreary and they just want to cuddle up in a blanket an go to bed. I absolutely love those kind of days. I get really excited and I feel energized. I also love slugs even though people think they're gross and disgusting they remind me of going to school and steeping on them and they always come out when it rains. What grey and dark meansto you is totally different for me.

Have you ever known a secret that you thought you should tell? Did you tell? If you've never experienced this, what do you think it would be like to know a secret that you think is dangerous?

No not a super secret totally embarrassing important, but I've known smaller secrets. It's not that nobody trusts me it's just most of my friends are guys and they don't have deep dark secrets you know. I guess if I did have a secret I wouldn't tell especially if it was embarrassing. If I had a dangerous secret that if I told anyone even my dog the whole world would be in danger I would be pretty scared. I mean what if some guys in dark suits came up to me and started asking questions and then they tortured me to make me tell. Yeah that would suck. I would be really paranoid and if anyone brought up a similar subject I would get nervous because I might say something on accident. Better to stay out of peoples personal lives it makes life easier and you don't have to remember stuff.

Write a journal from the perspective of Romeo, Juliet, Friar Laurence or Nurse. It should take place after the end of Act II when Romeo and Juliet have been secretly married. Remember, you ARE this person writing what they would be thinking and feeling at this time. 3 PARAGRAPHS!

Dear Journal,

My sweet Juliet and I are finally together at last. She is so beautiful and perfect and sweet. I am afraid though that are parents will will be very angry and this marriage will only make things worse. It seems like just yesterday we met. . . oh wait it was and what a wonderful day it was no girl can compare to my Juliet not even that Rosaline chick that I used to be deeply in love with.
I can't wait to live the rest of life with her I would do anything to make her happy and if anyone even lays a finger on her I will personally make them think twice before they ever touch my dear wonderful Juliet. We were meant to be fate has brought us together and nothing will bring us apart not even are parents.

9th grade:Do you believe in Fate? Are there certain things in life that, once set in motion, are inevitable; things that cannot be stopped once they are started? The story of Romeo and Juliet implies that the path of their love and what happens to them is part of Fate's plan. Do you think this is possible?

Yeah I guess I believe in fate. Like if a guy kills someone you love then fate probably won't let you be the best of friends with that person. I guess if two people meet like Romeo and Juliet and they get to know each other and they really like each other then usually fate will let them be together no matter what obstacles stand between them like the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets. I believe anyone can choose what they want but fate makes certain choices a lot easier and fate shows you a pathway that is to irresistible to ignore. Fate could be bad. If I hang out with bad friends and start doing drugs and get addicted then fate will probably make me think i have to live a bad life because it seems like the easiest path but I can choose a different fate and turn my life around even if it may seem hard.

Benovlio

Dear Journal,
I don't get why everyone hates each other. Why can't we all just get along, I mean they don't even remember what they're fighting about. Anyway I got a friend named Romeo and he has a serious problem. The kid can't get over this chick named Rosaline even though she told him they would never be together so he's totally depressed. I'm going to take him to this party tonight to help him find another girl and get his mind off that Rosaline girl. I mean there are plenty of girls way better then Rosaline he just needs to go out loosen up, and talk to some girls you know.

Define true love. Do you believe it exists?(Hint: have you ever seen it? give an example. Why do you believe/not believe in it?)

True love what everyone wants. In almost every movie and book people find true love but does it really exist? I say NO! I mean no one finds there perfect soul mate it's just garbage made up by writers to make it more interesting and it makes a great ending. Happily ever after is just a dream and I'm not saying this because I'm bitter. I think there is a good wife or husband for everyone but there's not just one. You should still look for that perfect someone but don't get so caught up with looking for the perfect person. In all I think true love is overrated it's wonderfully and happy and some people come close to a perfect ending but it just doesn't happen in real life.

8th AND 9th grade:If you had one superpower, what would it be and why? (Hint: describe exactly what your power would be, why you would want that one, what you would use your power for, etc. Would you be good or evil? Would you use it just for fun or for a good cause?)

Well I'm already a superhero I'm Phillipe (in disguise so keep it a secret) and his superpower is... well he doesn't really have a superpower but he is still cool. Philippe has a red cape and a santa hat and he wears really tight tights. Phillipe is usually good except for when you give him stuff like coffee and caffiene. He loves to help little kitties out of trees and give little kids lollipops. His secret weapon is this cool awesome deadly toilet paper spring that has super springy killing action. The only thing that can stop Phillipe is iron. It's like Superman's Kryptonite.

9th Grade: What comes to your mind when you hear the words, "Now we're going to read Shakespeare!" Do you cringe in fear? Do you giggle with glee? What past experiences have you had with Shakespeare to make you react the way you do?

I don't really cringe but I definitely don't giggle with glee. I haven't done much with Shakespeare but from the few stuff I have read and learned in past classes it's kind of hard to understand. I do know that he can be really funny and he is a really good writer so I'm excited to study his work because I've heard it can be really fun.

I don't really love old poetry and stories because it's hard to understand what life was like back then so sometimes they talk about things that don't make any sense, but I think it's interesting to learn about history and what life was like back then. I hope we don't just sit in class and read Shakespeare because that would be really boring.
